The Warehouse Sound Services recently provided an Adamson loudspeaker system for Edinburgh International Festival’s spectacular opening event.

The system consisted of E15 line array loudspeakers on main left and right hangs, S10 loudspeakers for under hangs, S7 for front and side fills and E119 sub bass loudspeakers all powered with Lab.gruppen amplifiers running Lake Processing. The show was mixed on a Digico SD10, while microphones included over 60 Neumann KM184 as well as a selection of DPA, Shure and Sennheiser models.

Aberdeen Standard Investments Opening Event: LA Phil at Tynecastle celebrated the start of the 2019 International Festival and was attended by a capacity crowd of 15,000 people.

A stage replicating the Hollywood Bowl, where the LA Phil famously perform every summer, was recreated in Tynecastle Park, the home of Hearts football club. This year’s Opening Event featured classic movie music from the Golden Age of Hollywood by Korngold, Herrmann, Waxman and a selection from the best-loved film composer on the planet, John Williams.

Front of House sound was mixed by hire manager and sound engineer Douglas Martin, who had flown to Los Angeles the previous week to attend a performance and meet the orchestra at The Hollywood Bowl. Martin has extensive experience of mixing orchestras and works for many leading producers worldwide. He was joined at Tynecastle with crew from The Warehouse that consisted of Aidan Thomson, Graeme Brown, Simon Meadows, Marc Freeman and Kieran Blair.

The sound mix received wide acclaim from both the LA Phil, the audience and attending media. Derek Blair, director of The Warehouse, commented: “We were delighted to be asked to do this concert and knew right from the start what a very special event this was going to be. The LA Phil are a really exceptional orchestra with a very talented and charismatic conductor.

“For this unique event the sound had to be equally spectacular, I think this was achieved very successfully with Douglas mixing the sound and the Adamson loudspeaker system. The Opening Event always puts a huge spotlight on Edinburgh, it’s a world-class event that we are so proud to be part of.”

Rock icons The Who are currently between legs of their 2019 Moving On! Tour, which finds them joined by a local orchestra along with Adamson’s E-Series system provided by Cleveland, OH’s Eighth Day Sound.

Chris “Chopper” Morrison, who shares FOH duties with The Who’s longtime engineer, Robert Collins, says that while this is the band’s first full outing to carry an Adamson system, the choice was informed by previous experiences with the E-Series on one-off and festival dates.

In its fullest configuration, the system for the Moving On! Tour is comprised of: main hangs of 15 E15 three-way, true line source enclosures over three E12 three-way, full-range enclosures per side; side hangs of 12 E15s over three E12s per side; 270-degree fills from Adamson’s S-Series, with four narrow-dispersion S10n two-way, full-range cabinets over eight standard S10s per side; and a complement of S10s and S7p point-source cabinets as front fills. The low end is delivered from a hybrid system of nine flown E119 subs per side (in FBFFBFFBF cardioid configurations) and an additional 12 E119s stacked in front of the stage.

“Once we had things dialled in, this system was just shining,” said Morrison. “The last show [of the first leg] sounded great, MSG was terrific, and we’ve consistently been hearing great things about the sound throughout the tour. I love this system.”

Adamson Systems Engineering will have an increased presence at InfoComm 2019, exhibiting in the audio hall (Booth 6389) and hosting product demonstrations throughout the event in a private demo room (W230C).

The company will expand its install-focused IS-Series with the launch of the IS219 subwoofer, as well as hosting a Milan Momentum Update in its demo room alongside representatives from fellow Avnu Alliance manufacturers at 5pm local time today.

The IS219 is a high-powered subwoofer intended for use in ground-stack configurations and to fit into compact spaces. The enclosure is loaded with two lightweight, long-excursion 19” SD19 Kevlar Neodymium drivers utilising Adamson’s Advanced Cone Architecture and a dual 5” voice coil for exceptional power handling. It is mounted in an efficient, front-loaded enclosure, designed to reproduce clean, musical low-frequency information.

The cabinet construction uses marine-grade birch plywood as well as aircraft-grade steel and aluminum and is equipped with two front and back Speakon NL4 connectors, or barrier strips available upon request. The IS219 ships with removable handles for easy maneuverability while allowing it to fit into tight spaces when the handles are removed, and its 20-in. height ensure it can easily fit under a standard 24-in. stage.

Adamson will be hosting regular demonstrations of the IS219 and wider IS-Series, along with the popular S-Series and new CS-Series of intelligent, Milan-ready compact loudspeakers in demo room W230C.

Meanwhile, Adamson will host a Milan Momentum Update in W230C on Wednesday, June 12 at 5pm local time, presenting technical updates for the protocol from the past year in a collaborative format. Milan combines the technical benefits of the AVB standard with pro AV market-defined device requirements to enhance ease-of-use and interoperability in network deployments for a myriad of applications.

The event will feature Adamson network engineer Morten Lave on a panel alongside d&b audiotechnik’s Henning Kaltheuner, L-Acoustics’ Genio Kronauer, and Meyer Sound’s Tim Boot. The presentation will run from 5-5:30pm, followed by a networking reception with cocktails and light fare.

Adamson Systems Engineering is set to expand its S-Series – a line of sub-compact, tour-ready loudspeakers – with several new solutions at this year’s Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt, Germany.

The latest additions include the S7 ultra-compact two-way, full-range line array enclosure and complementary S118 subwoofer, plus the S7p and S10p two-way, full-range point source cabinets. Together, they are designed to offer a substantial increase in configuration options for standalone S-Series systems in corporate, theatre, worship, and live music applications or, thanks to Adamson’s uniform voicing between product families, deployments supporting the flagship large-format E-Series.

The S7 is a two-way, full-range line array cabinet containing two ND7-LM16 Kevlar Neodymium drivers (2x 16 Ω) and an NH3-8 1.4” exit compression driver (8 Ω). The optimised sound chamber produces a slightly curved wavefront with a nominal dispersion pattern of 100° x 12.5° (H x V). The chamber’s efficiency allows for increased vertical dispersion without sacrificing high frequency presence in the far field, and Adamson’s patented Controlled Summation Technology is designed to further eliminate low-mid lobing normally associated with two-way line source systems.

The S118 is the companion subwoofer to the S7. The enclosure is loaded with a lightweight, long excursion 18” ND18-S Kevlar Neodymium driver utilising Adamson’s Advanced Cone Architecture and a 4” voice coil. It is mounted in a front-loaded enclosure, designed to reproduce clean, musical low frequency information. Both new units use Adamson’s SlideLock Rigging System, a suspension system which has been further refined since the S10 to eliminate the need for a stacking pin.

Meanwhile, the S7p and S10p are two-way, full-range point source cabinets containing two ND7-16 Low-Mid drivers (2x 16 Ω) and two ND10-LM Low-Mid drivers, respectively, and an NH3-8 1.4” exit compression driver (8 Ω) in both. Their prolate spheroidal waveguides produce a nominal dispersion pattern of 70° x 40° (H x V), rotatable in 90° increments. The design of the waveguide is designed to ensure equal tonal balance when moving outside of the intended coverage pattern, delivering natural sound with no diffraction or lobing.

The S-Series is designed to be powered by the E-Rack, Adamson’s unified rack solution that interfaces with and powers the full range of Adamson loudspeaker products. The E-Rack incorporates Lab.gruppen amplification combined with versatile I/O and power connections, as well as a 20-port managed Ethernet switch to route dual-redundant Dante and control signal.

Adamson will officially launch the latest additions to the S-Series during a press conference at Prolight + Sound (Hall 8, Booth C67) on 2 April, 2019, at 4:30pm local time.

Adamson Systems Engineering hosted the largest-ever gathering of its Global Network at its Canadian head office and manufacturing facility in Port Perry, ON from September 21-22, 2018.

Over 120 worldwide partners took part in two full days of programming, including previews of upcoming products, innovations, and collaborations. During the Adamson Conference at the Flato Markham Theatre in nearby Markham, ON, guests took in a day full of presentations and demonstrations, learning about Adamson’s approach to product development and innovation, new and incoming technologies, and sales and marketing strategies.

The company unveiled new expansions to the tour-grade S-Series and install-focused IS-Series, as well as providing guests with a sneak preview of new technologies to be announced in 2019.

On the second day of the event, attendees were given a first look at the brand new Adamson Education Centre, overseen by the company’s head of education Jeremiah Karni.

On the evening of September 22, Adamson hosted the third annual Winding Roads Country Festival on the grounds of its headquarters. Attendees enjoyed performances by Canadian Country Music Award-winner Madeline Merlo alongside local acts Ben Hudson and Brad James, with all proceeds going to support the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of North Durham.

“We’ve welcomed a significant number of new partners to the Adamson Global Network over the past few years amidst a period of strong year-over-year growth,” said James Oliver, Adamson’s director of sales and marketing. “We’re very proud of the way our international team has supported these partners to date, but recognised an opportunity to bring everyone together, offer a preview of upcoming product releases, and leverage ideas and resources to reinforce a shared vision for continued growth and success. The event was over a year in the making and we couldn’t be happier with how it all came together.”

Pro-audio provider The Warehouse supplied an advanced sound solution for Edinburgh International Festival’s opening event

The Aberdeen Standard Investments Opening Event: Five Telegrams celebrated the start of the 2018 International Festival and was attended by 15,000 people.

For the event, The Warehouse worked alongside International Festival’s Head of Sound Tom Zwitserlood, Production Manager Murray Boyd, and Technical Director John Robb, together with Olivier Award-winning sound designer Gareth Fry, who recently won the 2018 Tony Award for Best Sound Design of a Play for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The Warehouse has worked with the International Festival for over 27 years. Each year the opening event becomes more exciting and challenging than the last. This year, for the first time at an Opening Event, The Warehouse provided an Adamson loudspeaker system.

The system consisted of main left and right hangs of E15 line array loudspeakers, S10 front fills, E119/S119 distributed sub bass, S10 front fills and 6 x S10 per side on delay towers, all powered with Lab Gruppen PLM20K44 amplifiers running Lake processing on a Dante network.

A Yamaha QL5 mixer together with Shure Axient radio mics and DPA microphones. The show sound was mixed by Gareth Fry with systems and RF looked after by Douglas Martin, Simon Meadows, Graeme Brown and Kieran Blair.

Derek Blair, director of The Warehouse commented: “The Warehouse has an amazing 27-year history of working with the Edinburgh International Festival. Each opening event gets more and more spectacular. The vision and scale of ambition and innovation showcased in Five Telegrams was outstanding. For this unique event the sound had to be equally spectacular, I think this was achieved very successfully with the Adamson system. The Opening Event always puts a huge spotlight on Edinburgh, it’s a world class event that we are so proud to be part of!”

Over 100 Adamson loudspeakers were used at the Mr. Future Music Festival in China, attracting nearly 40,000 fans to Wuhan’s Tunkou Stadium from 18-19 November 2017.

The loudspeaker system, supplied by the company’s Chinese distributor, Real Music, shared the stage with acts like MC Hotdog, known as the “godfather” of Chinese hip-hop, Dutch DJ R3hab, and Canadian EDM duo DVBBS.

The system included main reinforcement from arrays of 15 Adamson E15 three-way, true line source enclosures per side. Because the stage design didn’t include hanging points, two speaker towers were custom-designed to suspend the arrays. Adamson’s compact S10 two-way, full range cabinets were deployed as both side fills, in arrays of 12 enclosures per side, and front fills, lining the lip of the stage.

For low end, 16 Adamson E219 subwoofers per side were flown behind the main arrays with an additional 18 E219s and 12 T21s groundstacked for additional support.

“The system sounded absolutely explosive,” said Mr. ShaoHua, lead sound engineer for the Mr. Future festival. “Hip-hop and EDM is very bass-heavy, and the Adamson system delivers clear, powerful low-end like no other. We used Adamson’s Blueprint AV software for the precise calculations of coverage, directivity, and SPL distribution across the stadium. We just loaded the presets and settings into the amplifiers and the sound throughout the stadium was consistent from the front to the back of the crowd, meaning every single person had the same high-impact experience.”

Added Real Music owner Zhen “Richie” Wang: “We’re very proud of the way Adamson has grown in the Chinese market. Its use at major events like Mr. Future has only generated more confidence and interest in the brand from our pro audio community, and we look forward to supplying and supporting an expanding number of clients in 2018 and beyond.”

A complete Adamson E15/S10 loudspeaker system was supplied by The Warehouse Sound Services for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Concert, one of the world’s leading New Year festivals.

2017 marked the fifth year that live entertainment company Underbelly produced Edinburgh’s Christmas for the City of Edinburgh Council, and their first year producing Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, which lasts three days in Scotland’s capital city and draws an estimated 150,000 people from around the world.

Double Brit Award-winning Rag’n’Bone Man headlined the festival following his year as the biggest UK breakout star of 2017, along with a performance from the Rolling Stones.

This year’s midnight celebration was choreographed to a specially commissioned soundscape created by Skye band Niteworks and award-winning sound designer and film composer Dan Jones, in collaboration with fireworks experts Titanium.

Pro audio provider The Warehouse Sound Services worked with Underbelly production director David Watson to ensure that the concert went without a hitch and all artist requirements were catered for.

“We utilised left and right hangs of 12 E15 line array enclosures with eight S10 as side hangs together with 16 E119 subs all powered with Lab Gruppen PLM20K44 amplifiers running Lake Processing to provide clean, crisp and even coverage throughout the audience areas,” said The Warehouse systems engineer Aidan Thomson. “Adamson’s proprietary design software Blueprint AV was used to design the system.

“A range of other equipment was also used during the performances including Avid, Digico, Midas and Yamaha digital mixing consoles, Shure Axient Digital radio mic systems, Shure and Sennheiser IEM Systems and AKG, Shure, DPA, Sennheiser, Neumann microphones.”

“The Adamson brand has delivered exceptionally strong growth in all aspects over recent years. Adamson has always been synonymous with premium quality sound and is already a leading brand in countries like France and the Netherlands. My mandate, in concert with the complete Americas team, is to build on this performance and create the same benchmark sales and brand presence throughout the Americas," Bertrand commented. “I’m also very excited to be able to draw on the support of this dynamic and entrepreneurial management team at headquarters as well as the experience of our European and Asian teams.”

Weatherford joins Adamson as part of the applications team for the Americas. He boasts years of experience as a systems tech, working with top international artists including Mumford & Sons and Lionel Richie.
