Adamson Systems Engineering is set to expand its S-Series – a line of sub-compact, tour-ready loudspeakers – with several new solutions at this year’s Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt, Germany.

The latest additions include the S7 ultra-compact two-way, full-range line array enclosure and complementary S118 subwoofer, plus the S7p and S10p two-way, full-range point source cabinets. Together, they are designed to offer a substantial increase in configuration options for standalone S-Series systems in corporate, theatre, worship, and live music applications or, thanks to Adamson’s uniform voicing between product families, deployments supporting the flagship large-format E-Series.

The S7 is a two-way, full-range line array cabinet containing two ND7-LM16 Kevlar Neodymium drivers (2x 16 Ω) and an NH3-8 1.4” exit compression driver (8 Ω). The optimised sound chamber produces a slightly curved wavefront with a nominal dispersion pattern of 100° x 12.5° (H x V). The chamber’s efficiency allows for increased vertical dispersion without sacrificing high frequency presence in the far field, and Adamson’s patented Controlled Summation Technology is designed to further eliminate low-mid lobing normally associated with two-way line source systems.

The S118 is the companion subwoofer to the S7. The enclosure is loaded with a lightweight, long excursion 18” ND18-S Kevlar Neodymium driver utilising Adamson’s Advanced Cone Architecture and a 4” voice coil. It is mounted in a front-loaded enclosure, designed to reproduce clean, musical low frequency information. Both new units use Adamson’s SlideLock Rigging System, a suspension system which has been further refined since the S10 to eliminate the need for a stacking pin.

Meanwhile, the S7p and S10p are two-way, full-range point source cabinets containing two ND7-16 Low-Mid drivers (2x 16 Ω) and two ND10-LM Low-Mid drivers, respectively, and an NH3-8 1.4” exit compression driver (8 Ω) in both. Their prolate spheroidal waveguides produce a nominal dispersion pattern of 70° x 40° (H x V), rotatable in 90° increments. The design of the waveguide is designed to ensure equal tonal balance when moving outside of the intended coverage pattern, delivering natural sound with no diffraction or lobing.

The S-Series is designed to be powered by the E-Rack, Adamson’s unified rack solution that interfaces with and powers the full range of Adamson loudspeaker products. The E-Rack incorporates Lab.gruppen amplification combined with versatile I/O and power connections, as well as a 20-port managed Ethernet switch to route dual-redundant Dante and control signal.

Adamson will officially launch the latest additions to the S-Series during a press conference at Prolight + Sound (Hall 8, Booth C67) on 2 April, 2019, at 4:30pm local time.

Next year’s Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound will be held simultaneously on all days, from the 2nd to the 5th of April 2019.

The two events will move physically closer together and be spread across a new sequence of days – from Tuesday to Friday.

For the first time, the whole spectrum of audio products will be concentrated in a single exhibition hall. In Hall 8.0, visitors will find solutions revolving around public-address systems, permanent installations, studio and recording. Opened in September 2018, Hall 12 will feature lighting, stage equipment, entertainment technology and event safety and security systems.

The Live Sound Arena is being relocated to outdoor area F10 in the immediate vicinity of Audio Hall 8.0, and a Demo Room for indoor audio systems is also in the pipeline. Hall 4 brings together associations of the music and event sector and is home to a joint business and networking area for both fairs, while on the new ‘Circle Stages’, exhibitors will present event highlights in the heart of the halls.

Following their successful première in 2018, A3E’s ‘The Future of Music and Audio Technology’ seminars will be expanded and cover, inter alia, subjects that have a decisive impact on the global music industry, such as artificial intelligence, app integration and wearables for musicians. The ‘Immersive Technology Forum’ is also being continued. Companies of the event and media-technology sector will provide insights into best practices relating to 3D and spatial audio, virtual and augmented reality, 360° projection and holography.

“Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound are combining their strengths. With all days now concurrent, we are complying with a request often expressed in the sector,” said Michael Biwer, group show director of the ‘Entertainment, Media & Creative Industries’ business unit of Messe Frankfurt Exhibition. “The concept for 2019 emphasises the strengths of the two trade fairs: professionalism, internationality and the synergistic effects between the industries represented.”

A number of new technologies will be presented for the first time at this year’s Prolight + Sound taking place from 11-13 April in Frankfurt.

The Immersive Technology Forum on Thursday, 12 April, is made up of lectures revolving around subjects such as 3D audio, virtual reality, 360° film and holography, while there will also be several special areas where exhibitors can demonstrate immersive hearing experiences.

The programme of the Immersive Technology Forum is oriented towards content producers, specialists from the technical and broadcasting segments, as well as at event managers and organisers. The programme will begin with a 3D audio workshop by Lasse Nipkow, founder of Silent Work GmbH. Then, Jörn Nettingsmeier of the Association of German Sound Engineers (VDT) will look at potential applications for 3D audio in theatres.

Meanwhile, Michael Ochs, PRG Lab, will offer insights into the creative use of virtual and augmented reality and other technologies trending in the event sector – from interactive exhibits to immersive spatial experiences. Andreas Gause, Gerriets GmbH, will present areas of application for 3D and hologram projection. Additionally, there will be two lectures by Mattias Hundt of Hessian Broadcasting (HR) on the business side of VR content production and the overall workflow of a 360° music-video production.

This new lecture programme at Prolight + Sound aims to give visitors the opportunity to discover how to upgrade events through the inclusion of immersive experiences, how to earn money now and in the future with virtual-reality content, and where appropriate solutions can be used in productions.

In addition to the lecture programme, several Prolight + Sound exhibitors will be represented with their own presentation areas for immersive sound. d&b audiotechnik will demonstrate the development of d&b Soundscape, a toolbox for the production of incomparable hearing experiences. There will be presentations on the development, concept and areas of application for d&b Soundscape, as well as practical workshops, on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the fair.

In Hall 3.1, Alcons Audio and Astro Spatial Audio will have a joint demonstration area for showing immersive sound systems in operation. The products to be seen include the first Alcons Pro-Audio loudspeaker with patent-applied-for waveguide technology and the Astro SARA II Premium Rendering Engine for object-based audio processing.

Visitors can also experience a unique sound installation in the Klangdome (sound dome) at the outdoor exhibition area. Equipped with a DIY 3D sound system with 31 loudspeakers and a vibrating floor, this geodetic dome is a sound-intensive event location. 6 x 6-channel, 100 Watt class D amplifiers are used in the dome’s Ambisonics 3D sound system to power the water-proof 8 Ohm loudspeakers.

Meanwhile, this year’s ProLight+Sound will also see French manufacturer L-Acoustics demonstrate its L‑ISA Immersive Sound Art technology, which is currently embarking on the Lorde Melodrama tour, as well as present new hardware and software tools – including the P1 networked digital audio processor, which begins shipping in June.

The company will showcase the new L-ISA Island on Stand C11 in Hall 3.1, while demonstrations and presentations of both L-ISA and the P1 networked digital audio processor will be held in the Kontrast Room, Hall 3.
