Portugese acoustic treatment specialists Artnovion (distributed in the UK by Audio-Technica) recently unveiled two new product ranges at Prolight + Sound 2019.

Orion – the latest addition to the company’s Pro Audio and Studio range – is the culmination of extensive research into the optimisation of MLS sequences for calibrated acoustic absorption.

An array of Orion absorbers is designed to create areas with a distinct acoustic response, each calibrated to work at a certain frequency range – the panel’s performance begins at 315Hz and offers ‘effective, even absorption’ to 3150Hz.

Using Helmholtz-style absorption techniques boosts mid-low and mid range absorption, whilst the open areas of the panel are enough to guarantee high-frequency control. Designed for the studio world, the new Orion panels have been designed to enable producers and engineers to maximise the sonic potential of their recording space.

Meanwhile, Artnovion’s new Antares absorber is the latest addition to legendary studio designer Jan Morel’s signature product lineup. The tapered slots of the panel create balanced mid-range absorption, whilst the panels’ deceptively large absorption area guarantees high performance, high frequency absorption.

DiGiCo is demonstrating the integration of KLANG:technologies immersive in-ear mixing into its SD-Range and the latest A3232 DMI for S-Series consoles at Prolight + Sound 2019.

ISE gave a first glimpse of the advantages the collaboration of DiGiCo and KLANG:technologies will bring to its customers. Now, Prolight + Sound 2019 gives a first opportunity to experience a working version of their new control integration for immersive in-ear mixing; the bidirectional control of mixes and immersive pan positioning will allow monitor engineers to provide fully immersive IEM feeds as part of their normal workflow.

A beta version of the software will be running on the SD7 Quantum 7, SD10 and SD12 96 throughout the show.

Also, first shown at NAMM and ISE, the A3232 DMI card from DiGiCo’s 4REA4 Range is now incorporated into the S-Series consoles. This I/O expansion allows the 4REA4 I/O to be directly connected to S-Series consoles, widening the I/O possibilities. Part of this upgrade, the recently launched S21-Stage48 and S31-Stage48 system, offered with 48 Mic inputs from stage via three A168STAGEracks, will also be on show.

“There was a lot of interest in what DiGiCo’s acquisition of KLANG would bring when it was first announced, which were soon dispelled when the logic of having immersive in-ear mixing capability integrated into DiGiCo consoles became apparent,” said DiGiCo general manager Austin Freshwater. “We are delighted to be able to show a working version of the software so quickly and to fully demonstrate the groundbreaking nature of the collaboration between the two companies.”

DiGiCo can be found on Stand 8.0 F40 at Prolight + Sound 2019 this week.

L-Acoustics has launched its new ARCS product range at Prolight + Sound 2019 in Frankfurt.

The ARCS family comprises four constant curvature enclosures – A15 Focus, A15 Wide, A10 Focus, A10 Wide – and a dedicated subwoofer, KS21. ARCS enclosures offer flexible coverage options, achieving a throw of up to 45 meters and a maximum output of 144 dB.

Mounted on a pole, stacked, or flown in a vertical or horizontal line source array, the new ARCS family comprises modular, plug-and-play ease and international market acceptance.

The A15 and A10 systems are designed to scale to events large and small, from weddings and galas, to the main system for a corporate event, theatre, or mid-size festival stage with KS21 extending low frequency bandwidth to 30 Hz. At large events, ARCS can be used as an effective fill or delay solution as a complement to larger K1 and K2 systems.

The plug-and-play simplicity of A15 and A10 Focus and Wide extends to amplification. The enclosures were designed with LA4X capabilities and 1-to-1 ratios in mind. Each LA4X amplification channel pairs with one A15, one A10, or one KS21. The 1-to-1 ratio extends to A15 and KS21, where one sub is recommended for each A15 enclosure. For A10, the recommended loudspeaker-to-sub ratio is 2-to-1. For further flexibility, ARCS also functions with LA12X amplified controllers.

“The flexibility that can be achieved with this new generation of ARCS is unprecedented,” said Germain Simon, L-Acoustics product manager. “The mounting, stacking, and rigging options, combined with user configurable L-Fins to adjust waveguide directivity, gives users a plethora of permutations to work with. For example, with only two ARCS elements, you can easily achieve 15 different coverage patterns.

“We see the new ARCS line of products as the perfect way to welcome providers into the L-Acoustics rental network,” Simon added. “The versatility and scalability of ARCS is really a ‘choose your own adventure’ scenario that only leads to happy endings. We look forward to seeing new customers approach the live events market in creative ways that allow them to capitalise upon their initial investment quickly and take their rental business to the next level.”

L-Acoustics can be found in Hall 8.0 on booth H85 at Prolight + Sound 2019.

Merging Technologies is showing its new Anubis interface at Prolight + Sound this week following its launch at AES Dublin last month.

One of the Anubis product managers will bring his guitar to the show to demonstrate how Anubis can be a real boon to musicians on stage and how this preempts a future application.

The compact audio interface is a standalone A/D and D/A capable of handling microphone or line level inputs and four analogue line outputs, plus two high quality headphone outputs. The large rotary encoder allows for precise monitoring volume control but also makes parameter adjustment simple, while the multi-touch display and dedicated buttons provide intuitive selection and control. Built in talkback, high-quality headphone and cue circuits and speaker management functions complete the package.

Anubis also introduces a new concept of “Modular by Software”; essentially the same hardware can be used for totally different workflows or what the company has chosen to call “Missions”. One Mission could be managing your multichannel monitoring in the control room and another Mission might be recording yourself in the studio. The Monitor Mission requires control of multiple speaker sets and headphones with built in talkback, bass management and time alignment plus a host of other features for managing your listening environment. The future Music Mission currently under development will include ultra-low latency mixing, control of cue feeds, plug-ins, mic pres and other features.

Anubis is scalable when coupled with Merging’s Hapi or Horus units, or indeed any other AES67 devices. The additional I/O allows Anubis to become the centre of an up to 256 x 256 matrix with the control of incoming and outgoing streams. In addition to audio I/O, Anubis also has GPIO or MIDI connectivity, a range of drivers covering MacOS, Windows and Linux, as well as Ambisonic decoding.

Practical uses of Anubis in its Monitor role, include control of multiple speaker sets in studios, remote trucks and edit rooms, monitoring incoming AES67 audio streams, recording voice-overs or as a highly portable location recording companion. Power for the Anubis can be supplied using Power over Ethernet (PoE) or a 12V adaptor (included), and both power sources can be used simultaneously for redundancy. Anubis can be placed on a desktop or mounted on a standard microphone stand.

Merging is at Prolight and Sound this week in Hall 8.0 on Stand C19.

The post PL+S 2019: Funktion-One launches ‘next level’ Vero VX system appeared first on Audio Media International.

Funktion-One has unveiled its latest technological development with the launch of Vero VX at Prolight + Sound 2019 in Frankfurt.

Vero VX, which has been in development for the last three years, promises Vero sound for a wider range of venues and environments thanks to its more compact footprint. The system comprises VX90 full-range vertical array elements, V124 or V221 bass enclosures, amp racks, fly bars, transport dollies, ground stack hardware, cabling and Projection predictive software.

The VX90 is a 3-way vertical array element with four new Funktion-One designed Neodymium drivers in a horizontally symmetric configuration: two reflex loaded, high efficiency 12” mid bass drivers; one Axhead loaded wide bandwidth 8” cone midrange driver; and a single 1” compression driver on a proprietary isophase diffraction waveguide. The VX90 measures 1120mm wide and 340mm high; its usable bandwidth is 50Hz to 20kHz and horizontal dispersion is 90°.

The patented Lambda rigging system results from 40 years of development and refinement of Funktion-One rear tension rigging methods. This enables cabinets to be transported and flown as straight columns, then tensioned into pre-set angles once the complete array is suspended.

The Lambda system’s optimised rotation axis is designed to ensure perfect alignment at vertical angles between 0-12.5° for coherent summation. There is a choice of fixed or movable point flying beams. The movable point beam incorporates motorised adjustment, enabling the inclination and declination of the entire array to be remotely set while flown from a single motor.

Funktion-One’s driver and waveguide technology enable a single transducer to cover more than four octaves of the audio spectrum, from 300Hz – 5kHz. The high crossover point to the compression driver provides additional performance advantages including increased headroom, and reduced harmonic and modulation distortion. Psychoacoustically informed use of FIR filters and microsecond time alignment provide wide, consistent horizontal coverage whilst preserving transient response.

The very high electroacoustic efficiency of the horn-loaded mid/high section is supplemented by a new bass driver technology, which is designed to significantly increase true power efficiency. Unlike a conventional line array element, the VX’s huge LF resource ensures spectral balance and dynamic impact whether used as a single box or in a 24-box array. Vero VX’s energy efficiency means up to eight cabinets can be powered from a single amplifier. A 32-box system plus additional subwoofers can be powered by just six amplifiers.

“While Vero VX has been in development for around three years, we were building from the technological breakthroughs we made with Vero and the Evolution Series,” said Funktion-One founder Tony Andrews. “That said, applying our acoustic principles to this footprint was challenging. It has pushed us to the next level and we’re extremely pleased with the result.”

ProLight + Sound 2019 in Frankfurt this week sees the launch of Yamaha’s newly-updated DXRmkII range of powered loudspeakers.

The four-model DXR series is designed with the rental market, live music venues, houses of worship and performing artists in mind.

The DXRmkII models feature an upgraded, 1.75” neodymium VC compression driver that delivers 1-2 dB higher SPL than the existing series, with improved HF audio quality. The DXR15mkII can reach 134 dB maximum SPL, with an LF response down to 49Hz, while the DXR12mkII can also produce 134 dB SPL with LF down to 52Hz, with “exceptional clarity and minimal distortion”. The maximum SPL for the DXR10mkII is 132dB SPL, with 130dB SPL for the DXR8mkII.

Yamaha’s proprietary FIR-X tuning utilises linear phase FIR* filters for the crossover, designed to achieve a very accurate, smooth response and provide enhanced clarity and imaging.

All models feature D-CONTOUR dynamic multi-band processing, with more detailed tuning settings – FOH/MAIN or MONITOR – optimally set to match the particular application. Yamaha’s DSP also offers tour-proven protection functions to ensure all vital components perform at their maximum potential, even after extended durations of usage.

Versatile mounting options include rigging points for standard eye-bolts, optional U brackets and a dual-angle pole mount socket. All models also feature a three-channel onboard mixer, flexible IN/OUT connectivity and linking options to create a full sound reinforcement system.

As with the original DXR series, Yamaha collaborated with Nexo on the updated range: “Working with Nexo was an obvious step in taking DXRmkII to the highest level of performance. Liaising closely with Nexo engineers at their state-of-the-art facility greatly contributed to the impressive SPL and unmatched reliability of these new loudspeakers,” said Yoshi Tsugawa, general manager of the Yamaha Pro Audio Division. “As a result, they deliver enhanced performance and reliability, allowing them to meet the demands of a wider range of environments that require professional, high-quality performance in a compact, lightweight package.”

The full DXRmkII range will be available from June 2019. Yamaha Music Europe GmbH is exhibiting with Nexo on stand F50, Hall 8.0 at ProLight + Sound, which is taking place at Frankfurt Messe from 2 – 5 April 2019.

KV2 Audio will present its most compact loudspeaker yet at Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt this week.

The ESD Cube ultra-compact passive five-inch loudspeaker utilises a unique trans-coil design for superior vocal reproduction, extended high frequency response, increased dynamic range and the “lowest distortion of any comparable loudspeaker in its class.”

“What sets the Cube apart from similar offerings by other manufacturers is the unique trans-coil technology incorporated into its 5-inch twin cone speaker,” said KV2’s founder and chief engineer, George Krampera. “We had already seen excellent results using our AIC technology in other, larger systems, and I was determined to develop it still further for the Cube. The results have been beyond even our own expectations with perfect phase response, increased dynamic range and the lowest distortion of any speaker in its class.”

The ESD Cube may be used as a standalone system with up to eight Cubes powered by a single ESP1000 amplifier or with the ESD1.10 single 10-inch passive subwoofer for applications requiring more low end reinforcement. One ESP1000 amplifier will run up to four Cubes and two ESD1.10s. A simple, proprietary flying bracket completes the system for a low profile look and easy installation.

The Cube’s compact dimensions make it an ideal solution for bars, hotels, houses of worship, museums, tourist attractions, and corporate venues.

Visitors to Prolight + Sound this week can see the Cube for themselves on KV2’s booth at Hall 8, stand B71.
